Motivation is what pushes us to act. It’s the inner energy that helps us reach our goals. But sometimes, it feels like motivation disappears overnight. Why does that happen?
Motivation has two main types — internal and external. Internal motivation comes from personal satisfaction, like learning something new or creating something beautiful. External motivation comes from rewards, such as money, praise, or grades. Both are important, but internal motivation usually lasts longer.
Our brain releases a chemical called dopamine when we feel excited about achieving something. But when the reward feels too far away, dopamine levels drop, and we lose interest. That’s why it’s helpful to set small goals that give quick wins.
Another reason motivation fades is stress and burnout. When the brain feels overwhelmed, it chooses to rest instead of act. Taking small breaks and celebrating progress helps bring back energy.
Remember, motivation doesn’t stay high every day. The key is to keep moving, even when you don’t feel like it. Small, consistent effort builds habits — and habits keep you going when motivation is low.
